All nine school board candidates come together to hold meet and greet

Posted

With four openings on the Hastings ISD #200 School Board, all nine candidates are ramping up their campaigns vying for their spot on the board. On Monday night, those nine held a meet and greet at The Studio Downtown, 205 2nd St. E., where they spent time talking to district residents and answering many well thought-out questions.

The event was scheduled to last two hours until 8:30 p.m. but it went well past 9 p.m. inside then until nearly 11 p.m. for some outside on the sidewalks. The candidates were visibly worn out after talking to so many people, but they were also very pleased with the overwhelming positive interactions with residents of ISD #200. There were a few people who had negative intentions, but the majority were there to learn about the candidates.

There was a common theme for the candidates throughout the night: The support they have for the community and the school system. All nine did a great job showing their passion for Hastings and the students in their own way. Their desire to see the students succeed and grow into wonderful adults was very apparent. The turnout of residents appeared to overwhelm the nine in a good way. Many of them did not know what to expect for the turnout, but many also said they did not expect the amount of people that came out to meet them.

There are currently no known scheduled meet and greets or forums as of press time. There was discussion in the room around the HCTV candidate forum that is in the works. The known part of that plan is to have the forum in the HCTV studios like they did last year which means no studio audience. The official date and time are what is being worked on. Once that is locked down, we will be sure to communicate that.

The Journal is also working on a list of questions to ask candidates. Our first installment will be next week where we will provide the two questions that we asked of the candidates and give you a chance to compare all nine answers in one edition. Each subsequent week will feature one to two questions with all nine answers together to help you become more informed on the candidates. If you have questions you would like to see in a future edition, please submit them by October 6 for consideration to bruce@hastingsjournal.news.
