Absentee voting started Sept. 20 for the general election on Nov. 5.
Voters may request an absentee ballot, complete it according to the enclosed instructions and return it in the envelopes provided. Absentee ballots must be returned by Election Day. Absentee ballots are available at City Hall or the Dakota County Administrative Center, or they may be requested online at MNvotes.org. Hastings City Hall, 101 E. 4th St., has ballots for precincts within Hastings (Dakota County) only. The Dakota County Administrative Center, 1590 Highway 55, and county service centers have ballots for any precinct in the county.
Return a completed ballot by mail or drop off at either location. A ballot drop box is available 24/7 outside of City Hall, starting Sept. 20. Ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Early voting, also called direct balloting, for the general election begins Oct. 18. Voters can request an absentee ballot in person and place their completed ballot in a tabulator, like they would on Election Day. Early voting will be available at City Hall or the Dakota County Administrative Center in Hastings.
Voters can take advantage of convenient, extended hours during select weekends and evenings.
