A weekly reflection from a member of the Hastings clergy

Seek God and you will find Him!

“I will sing the Lord’s praise, for He has been good to me.”

There are 2 ways of looking at life. Either everything is chance and you evolved from some event which occurred billions of years ago which produced energy, which changed into matter, which morphed into proteins, which organized themselves into cells, which transformed into life, which miraculously evolved from amoeba to centipede to pollywog to lizard to monkey to finally YOU. All this happened by pure chance. There was no order, no design, and no intelligent designer. This view refuses to see God. There is no God. It is ‘A- Theistic’ meaning without God. I’m sorry but I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist.

OR…you look at us as a creation of God. The first five words of the Bible are, “In the beginning God created”. The Bible does not prove there is a creator but it reveals who He is and what He is like. The Bible reveals God as loving and wanting us to have a close connection with Him. He knows all about each one of us and He wants us to know Him as a loving father. Of all the words God could have chosen to describe His relationship with us He said ‘I want you to call me Father. I want you to relate with me like you do to your earthly father.’ He does not want to be distant but close to you. God wants to bless you, which means to fill your life with good things. Not money and toys and stuff. It is not the same as us asking a child, “Was santa good to you this year?” God wants to bless your marriage and help you be great parents. He wants to bless you with confidence and security about the future. He wants to come along side you when you face problems and answer your prayer when you tell him your needs. I could go on but it all comes down to having a close relationship of faith and trust in God. I have found that as I trust Him and have a desire to live His way that He is so good to me. He has blessed me in so many ways. I am so thankful to Him for how He has shown His love for me. If you do not know God like this and it all seems so different, you need to know that He is just a whisper away. The Bible says, “If you seek me you will find me, if you seek me with all your heart.” Honestly seek God and you will find Him. It happened with me and it can happen with you.
