Last month I made one of my last trips to Iowa, finally moving my Dad to Minnesota where I can keep a weather eye on the storm that is dementia. I’ve gotten use to the route now, especially the ever-frequented and self-proclaimed “Bob’s Road.” The formal name of that road doesn’t really matter. If I’ve never been on it before, it’s at least partially paved, and surrounded by farm fields and homesteads, it’s “Bob’s Road.” If I were labeling a map of all the routes I’ve taken between Hastings and Cedar Rapids, you’d see a number of roads called Bob. It seems every time I crossed the State line, there was always a road closure, a wrong turn, or an accident causing a detour into parts unknown. I’m never lost, mind you, I am just discovering a new way to get to where I need to be.

It’s a little like the Christian life, yes? Jesus, who is

various incarnations of Bob’s Road, the path of evangelization – sharing the Good News that Jesus is our Savior and belief in him is the only way into heaven – is different for everyone. The first conversation can be a bit unsettling; those first few miles on Bob’s Road took some getting use to, I’ll say that with certainty. But once you get the hang of talking about how having a relationship with Jesus has improved your life, it’s not quite so uncomfortable. A little like throwing on that new Chosen hoodie as you head out the door to send a message, the more you wear it, the softer and ‘more like you’ it feels. So it was with Bob’s Road. Each time I drove off the beaten path, there was a pause of panic followed by a ‘God’s got this’ smile of certainty. What a memorable adventure it is to share our belief in Jesus with others! And that, my friends, is more than a little good news. #sharetheroad
