Mary L. Stevens, age 93 of Hastings, died peacefully at Hastings Senior Health and Living on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022.

Mary Lucille, the daughter of Aloyicious and Vernice (Frey) Stevens, was born on Jan.29, 1929, in Hastings.

Mary attended St. Boniface Catholic School and later graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1947. All throughout her life, Mary was proud to have been part of the class of ‘47 and enjoyed keeping in close contact with her classmates.

Following her graduation, Mary continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she earned her degree in Dental Assistant. She then worked at the Hastings State Hospital until it closed in 1978, and then worked in Human Resources in St. Paul until her retirement in 1994. Mary was a long-standing dedicated member of the Regina Hospital Auxiliary as well as the Daughters of Isabella. She Traveled extensively both domestic and internationally, enjoyed most sports either as a participant or fan (MN GOPHERS Football Fan extraordinaire and season ticket holder from 1950-2015), and loved her girls weekend getaways! She often spent Saturday mornings at Emily’s Bakery for coffee, random retiree luncheons, and Wednesday’s playing dominoes with her lady friends.

Up until the last few years, one would need an appointment to see her as she had such a busy social calendar.

It wasn’t until she was 56 years old that Mary took the time to get her driver’s license and her 昀rst vehicle!

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Patricia O’Brien, Phyllis Doffing, Rita Nelson, Barbara Nelson, and Jerry ‘Spike’ Stevens; and by her nephew, Jerry Stevens, Jr.

Mary was the fun aunt and second mom to her nieces and nephews, Joyce Reidel, Shannon Rentz, Jane Truesdill, Stacey Corrington, Jackie Pioske and Sue Sieben, Gary ‘Jeep’ Stevens, Mike, Mark & Kevin O’Brien, Jerry, Jim, Dick, Dave & Dennis Nelson, Bob, Steve & Jeff Nelson, and John ‘Ripper’ & Jim Stevens. Mary is also survived by many great & great-great nieces & nephews; special cousins, Chuck Preus, Rita LaBore and Sharon Murray; plus a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
