Faye Vermillion 1939-2022

Faye P. Vermillion, age 83, passed away peacefully Regina Senior Living in Hastings, Minnesota surrounded by her family.

Faye Patricia Vermillion was born on March 14, 1939, in Hastings, Minnesota to David and Marion (Nelson) Almquist. She attended Hastings High School before graduating in 1957. Faye attended college in River Falls, Wisconsin with a focus on teaching for two years before meeting the love of her life, Russell. She helped teach second grade at Tilden and Pine Crest until retiring in 1997. After retirement she liked to help with her grandson’s classroom in Shakopee for 6 years and was known all as Grandma Faye. She loved being involved with the students and helping them learn. Faye also loved walking and cleaning both at home and the school. Russell and Faye traveled the world for 21 years visiting countless countries and continents, they loved everywhere they went while being in each other’s company. Faye’s true pride and joy was her grandsons, she was so lucky to be able to have a multi-generational relationship with them. She holds a very special place in their hearts.

She is preceded in death her parents, David and Marion Almquist; brother, R Gene Almquist; and sisterin- law, Carol Almquist; and brother-in-law, Hugh Jelley.

Faye is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Russell Vermillion; children, Thomas (Lezlie) Vermillion, Steven (Laura) Vermillion; two grandsons, Russell and Jacob Vermillion; siblings, June Jelley, twin sister, Maye (Chuck) Curtis, Ferne (Bert) Lessard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to honor Faye by sending donations to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, alzfdn.org, ASPCA Animal Shelter, and Hastings Public Schools Foundation, www.hastingspsf.org.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel. Interment was held at Lakeside Cemetery.
