Mary Lou Norgaard 1937-2022

Mary Lou (Kluver) Norgaard of Hastings passed away on Sept. 7, 2022. She was 85 years old.

Mary Lou was born on May 12, 1937, to her parents Emil and Mabel Kluver in Clara City, MN. She was baptized and con昀rmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. She graduated from Clara City High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked summers at Camp Courage where she developed an appreciation and love for kids and adults with special needs. Mary Lou graduated with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Saint Cloud State. She taught in Sauk Centre, Red Wing, and Hastings.

While teaching in Red Wing, Mary Lou met the love of her life, Dave – who tried to sell her life insurance. Mary Lou loved his children – Mike and Debbie. They soon decided to marry on June 23, 1963. They were wed at Immanuel Lutheran in Clara City and moved to their 昀rst home as a family in Hastings. In 1964 Robin was born, making their family complete. Mary Lou taught at Tilden School in Hastings for a number of years, but retired early to become Dave & Mike’s secretary at Norgaard Insurance. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran since 1963. She taught Sunday school, enjoyed her church circle friends, and bible study. Mary Lou enjoyed playing her trumpet on special occasions such as birthdays and the annual 4th of July Parades until her late 70’s.

In 1965, they moved to their new home on Louis Lane where they resided and raised their children along with many family pets. In 1996, they purchased a town home in Hastings. In 1967, they purchased a lake home on Deer Lake in Spooner, WI. Over the years they enjoyed memories of times with family and friends who were always welcomed. They enjoyed skating, ice 昀shing, cross country skiing, and cocktail rides on the pontoon boat at 5:00 with friends, teaching the kids and grand kids how to water ski, the list goes on and on. Mary Lou enjoyed playing bridge with friends and good jokes.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Emil & Mabel Kluver; and her brother, Verlin.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Dave; son, Mike (Cathy); daughters, Deb Stern and Robin (Roger) Maupin; her grandchildren, Tony (Ann) Norgaard, Tracy Precious, Tara (Mark) Weber, Tessa (Brandon) Anderson, and Keira & Kristi Maupin; great grandchildren, Jenna & Maya Norgaard, Isabel & Hanah Precious, Blake, Cody, & Sawyer Weber, and Mikah & Laken Anderson; her sister, Ruthie (Dennis) Harguth; sister- in-law, Joan Norgaard; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other friends & relatives.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, 2022 at 12 p.m. at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St. in Hastings. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
