Walus, (nee Stenehjem) Gladys J. age 76, of Vermillion, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 6th, 2022. Gladys died unexpectedly from complications due to multiple health issues. Gladys grew up in NE Minneapolis and moved to the small town of Vermillion where she lived and raised her family for forty-six years. Gladys enjoyed making others laugh and could be known for her sarcastic sense of humor. She tried to keep a positive attitude even in tough situations. She was sensitive and gentle, and those qualities could be seen in her love of animals, especially cats. She loved reading, 昀owers, crosswords, and jeopardy. She was thoughtful, opinionated, and strong to the end, doing it ‘her way’. Gladys proudly served on the Vermillion City Council for many years. She enjoyed talking to patients for over 20 years working as a dental assistant. Gladys was most de昀nitely a caretaker, 昀rst by raising three children and then later by taking care of her husband, Richard. She always cherished time with family. She enjoyed her afternoon phone calls with her sister and talking to her brothers. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, Martin, and Helen Stenehjem; infant brother Richard; brother-inlaw Henry Myhre; sister-inlaw Cean Frost, and nephew Tyler Stenehjem; and brother Donald Stenehjem. Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her children: Erica Shelar (Ameet) (grandson Shounak), Jessica (Gary Pechuman) and David; siblings: Ralph, Jeanette, and Thom (Rita) and many nieces and nephews. Gladys will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Gladys will be put to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, a private family service will be held. A celebration of life open house to remember Gladys will take place at her daughter Jessica and son-in-law Gary’s residence on Sunday October 2nd from noon to 3 pm.
