Dakota County well owners, high-capacity water users and public and private water suppliers can apply to be reimbursed for well interference repairs during the 2021 drought.
The Minnesota Legislature provided funding to the Department of Natural Resources to reimburse people who paid to restore a water supply because of a well interference. A well interference happens when a high-capacity water user causes the water level in an aquifer to fall to a level that adversely affects the availability of water to shallower wells.
The well interference must have happened between May 1–Dec. 30, 2021 to be eligible. Those who wish to apply for reimbursement will need to provide copies of receipts for work performed. The DNR will review applications and determine eligibility.
The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. April 1, 2024. The DNR encourages submissions as soon as possible. The statewide fund has just under $90,000.
