Jeff Corkish Hastings High School

Our community benefits from learning from Jeff Corkish, an incredible coach and teacher who has been educating kids in Hastings for over 25 years!

A graduate of Concordia College with a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Dakota, Corkish teaches Human Performance and Health classes at Hastings High School.

As someone who has always enjoyed sports and mentoring kids, he is a perfect fit to educate our students. His teachers over the years inspired him to follow in their footsteps.

“My teachers in school were excellent, and I wanted to do what they did,” Corkish said. “One of the best things about being a teacher is when you get to see a kid experiencing an eye-opening experience that changes their lives.”

Sharing those experiences must come often to Corkish. In addition to teaching in the classroom during the school day, he has helped coach many Hastings students through youth and high school sports, including hockey, baseball, golf and softball. Nurturing kids to find confidence, teamwork, and healthy habits are all in a day's work for Jeff.

“I wish parents could be a fly on the wall to see what teachers deal with every day,” he said. “If this were to happen, I believe kids would be held accountable in making more effort and taking more advantage of the opportunities in front of them.”

Even though Corkish grew up in Canada, he knew Hastings is the place he wanted to be once he drove over the bridge and saw Todd Field.

When Jeff finds free time, he loves the outdoors. You may find him hunting birds with his kids and friends in Saskatchewan, while visiting his mom in his hometown. If not there, look for him playing tennis or pickleball, golfing, kayaking or mountain biking with his kids. He also enjoys traveling across North America.

“Life is short, and I won’t be able to do it all, but I’m sure going to try,” he said.

The enthusiasm he has surely rubs off on his students! Life truly is short, and that is all the more reason why we must keep our community #200Strong!
