Ms. Rachel Bachman, First Grade Teacher, Kennedy Elementary

Rachel Bachman has been teaching for 16 years, after completing her undergraduate degree at MSU Mankato, and her master’s degree from Concordia. She is now working on completing the LETRS course, through the State of Minnesota, where she is developing a deeper knowledge and understanding of the science of reading and writing instruction. The dedication she has to helping her students is palpable.

When asked why she became a teacher, it was simple. Rachel had amazing teachers in her youth, who instilled a lifelong love of learning, and gave her the confidence for her to be who she is today. “I strive to provide this same passion and spark in my students each day,” Bachman said.

Ms. Bachman enjoys teaching, because “no two days are the same. Every day is a fresh start to spark something new in a child. To be able to see the growth of a first grader from September to June, and the pride they take in that growth, is amazing.”

If you ever have the privilege of spending time in Ms. Bachman's classroom, you will see the impact she has on her students. She wants the parents of her students to know that they are a team.

“When their child enters my classroom, I look at them as I would my own child,” she said. “I will love them, encourage them and support them in the same ways I would my own. I will also challenge them and hold them accountable for their behaviors and learning as I would my own. Their safety, growth and confidence are my #1 priority.”

Rachel, who is a native of Cottage Grove, was thrilled to get her teaching position in Hastings, since it kept her close to family and friends in the area. When she is not nurturing our children, she is busy raising two kids of her own. Their family enjoys camping, playing games and traveling.

We’re lucky to have such dedicated teachers here in ISD200. Rachel Bachman is one of many who help our children grow and thrive each day. Thank you, teachers!  #200Strong
