What started as two friends hanging out in a garage has turned into a successful podcast featuring humor, emotion and local Hastings businesses. The Luxury Hillbilly Hideaway Podcast is a great blend of everything you would expect just reading the name and, believe it or not, they do not take themselves seriously at all. The co-hosts, who go by their podcast persona names of Lux and Bullet, are two local guys that had an idea that works. They currently have 40 episodes on their Spotify channel with many more to come.
One episode featured Hastings Golf Club and Events (HGCE) owner Nicole Sindelar and HGCE Bar Manager Annie Valentine. The two brought the golf club’s beverage cart right into the “studio” as a conversation piece. Out of nowhere, they decided to spend their time on the podcast serving the cast and crew out of the cart as part of their fun filled discussion. That discussion led to a brief brainstorming session where the group came up with the idea of having celebrity beverage cart drivers at the club.
That conversation spawned into the boys running the beverage cart on HGCE’s Thursday nights “Gals on the Green” events. The Thursday night event features local women who come to the course for some lessons before they head out to the links to play a round of golf in the summer months.
The first round of “Celebrity Bev Cart Boys” was cancelled due to rainy weather, so their first event happened on July 10, and the boys had fun bringing even more fun to the Gals on the Greens.
“We brought the energy and fun to the groups on the course and obviously, kept them hydrated,” Lux said in an email.
The Gals seemed to really enjoy both the hydration and the story behind what was going on. The boys had a speaker on the beverage cart with country music playing as they approached the Gals on the Greens. The normal beverage cart gal Leah was in charge of the whole process and she seemed to be having just as much fun laughing at all the craziness from Bullet and Lux. Add a third cart piloted by Ace Hardware’s Nick Loesch toting yours truly around to document and photograph the whole thing, it was quite the convoy that caught the golfers a little off guard at first too.
But why do celebrity beverage cart operators? To do something different and fun while raising funds for a local charity. The guys were not sure what local charity they are going to give the tips to because they wanted to make sure they conferred with Sindelar before announcing that, but they did say they will be back on August 7 where they hope to have that decision made by.
It was also a great way to spread the word about their podcast.
“Our podcast aims to share the happenings and history of businesses and interesting events throughout our area, and we thought that this would be a perfect fit,” added Lux.
The success of the night was clear to see with all the fun interactions between the golfers and the Luxury Hillbilly Hideaway boys, August 7, is sure to be a bigger hit.
