The Section 3AAA tournaments are in the books for both boys and girls golf. The Raiders performed admirably at Logger’s Trail in Stillwater and Jon Harris punched his ticket to state. The boys as a team finished sixth and the girls finished tenth overall.
The format of sections can be a bit confusing for those newer to the sport. Sections are held over two days. The top five teams of six from day one and the top 10 individuals advance to day two for a total of 40 golfers on day two.
To qualify for state, the top team plus the top five golfers not on the top team go for a total of 11 golfers from each section qualify for state.
Boys
The Raider boys finished the first day in ninth place overall with a score of 334, just 30 strokes out of first place. Jon Harris led the Raiders with an 80 qualifying him for day two. Luke Kendal and David Bauer just missed the cut with an 83. Trey Bremer finished the team scoring with an 88 with Will Rieder and Drew Greiner rounding things out for Hastings with 89s
Day two went really well for Harris where he finished with a one under par round of 71. The 71 put him in second place for the day, just two strokes behind Cottage Grove’s Charles Looker. Overall, Harris finished fifth individually with a 151. Rosemount took the team title with three of their golfers in the top six. That put Harris as the third individual qualifier for state.
Girls
The girls as a team finished day one in ninth place overall, 104 strokes ahead of the leader East Ridge who had 334. Individually, Claire Stoffel finished round one with a 91, Madison Haines shot a 94 and Emily Thuet just missed the second day cut with a 95. Harmon Brown finished with a 99, Gabi McDowel a 108 and Brook Jelley with a 122.
Stoffel and Haines advanced to day two finishing the two-round tournament for Hastings. Stoffel finished 20th overall with a two-day score of 183 and Haines finished with 198 for 34th place.
The state golf tournament takes place at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids with the first round on June 11 and second round on June 12. Harris is expected to tee off sometime in the 7:30-8:00 a.m. time slot. Official tee time assignments will be available at a later date. We will communicate the final time slot via the Hastings Journal Facebook page.
