Nov. 7 ballot will also have a $2 million technology referendum

The election for four Hastings School District Board of Education directors looks like it could be a crowded field, if the filings from last week are any indication.

Four incumbents are up for election. None are among the four people who filed paperwork as of Monday night to run for the election, which will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Also on the ballot for the school district will be a capital improvement levy referendum question seeking $2 million to be used for technology expenditures and initiatives for the next 10 years. The school board unanimously approved a resolution calling for the referendum at its July 27 meeting.

Current ISD 200 Board Members up for re-election include Chair Lisa Hedin, Vice Chair Stephanie Malm, Clerk Becky Beissel and Treasurer Brian Davis.

So far, filing to challenge for the four open seats are:

  • Matt Bruns, 2101 Pine St., Hastings.
  • Mariah Ring, 1983 Sierra Dr., Hastings.
  • Matt Seeger, 8977 Manning Ave. S., Hastings.
  • Brandy Wentzler, 21489 Lewiston Blvd., Hampton.

All four are aligned with the group 200Strong which defines itself as “a group of Hastings community members who support strong public schools, where children can learn, thrive and pursue their dreams.”

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Aug. 15 to file for a spot on the ballot. To file, prospective candidates must return an Affidavit of Candidacy form at the Hastings School District Administrative Office, 1000 W. 11th St. Door #22, Hastings.
