A grass fire spread rapidly on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 4, fueled by wind gusts in excess of 35 mph on land across Hwy. 61 from The Point Holiday station. A large area of grass was burned after the fire started to burn a small patch of grass. No injuries were reported. The Hastings Fire Department was assisted by the Cottage Grove and Miesville Fire Departments. The area is in a high fire danger area and permits are required for any burning, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
