Hastings rebounds with win on home court

With wins this week, the Hastings girls basketball team is guaranteed a second-place finish in the Metro East Conference.

Conference play wraps up with a two-game homestand for the Raiders. They played North St. Paul Tuesday and wrap up the regular season against Hill-Murray on Friday. Section seeding is expected to be released in coming days to the Raiders, 10-2 and 17-7 overall, will know its post-season path.

Hastings got a big win at South St. Paul on Wednesday, Feb. 14 and blew out Simley on Friday.

Hastings jumped out to a quick lead against South St. Paul, leading by 12 at half enroute to a 55-43 win.

Keagan McVicker led all scorers with 18 points, to go along with five rebounds. Haley Strain scored 14 points and had eight boards. Emma Bakker added eight points and six rebounds, and Elle Magnus had seven points. Lindsey Wagner scored five points, while Jillian McTague had three.

Against Simley, the Raiders broke open a six-point game to coast downt the stretch in the 50-29 win.

Hastings’ defense was hitting on all cylinders as they came up with 14 steals in the game, including four from Strain and two each from McVicker, Rachael Notch, Bakker and Mara Jackson.

Strain posted an impressive stat line to go along with those steals, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Wagner scored 12 points, connected on a pair of three pointers, while McVicker scored 11. Bakker had six points, Notch two and Jackson two.
