Hastings High School celebrates SnoWeek 2026

The gym was full, loud, and smiling as SnoWeek pep fest 2026 unfolded with music, cheers, games, and plenty of school spirit. Students packed the bleachers Friday afternoon for a fast-paced program that mixed tradition, friendly competition, and recognition across all four grade levels.
Senior class officers Katie, Kim, and Charlie opened the event, welcoming the crowd and setting the tone for the afternoon. Their first task was inviting Mr. Doran to the floor to present the Rotary Student of the Month award, a moment that grounded the celebration in appreciation before the festivities shifted into full SnoWeek mode.
From there, the spotlight moved quickly to the first coronation of the day, honoring freshmen and sophomores. Members of each court were introduced with details about their activities and the people who influence them most. The reflections ranged from athletics and music to family, coaches, and teachers who have helped shape their high school experience.
Freshman Khloe Anselment spoke about her hockey coach, saying, “I chose Jamie because going into my bantam hockey season as a girl was really scary and filled with doubt and overthinking.” She continued, “There hasn’t been a single day where he hasn’t pushed me to become a better person.” Other freshmen highlighted lessons about confidence, kindness, and perseverance, while sophomore court members shared fun facts, personal stories, and gratitude for siblings, parents, and mentors.
After introductions, the crowd leaned in for the first crowns of the afternoon. Cheers erupted as the 2026 freshman and sophomore SnoWeek king and queen were announced, followed immediately by laughter and noise as the first mini game kicked off. Teams from each grade competed in a beach ball tossing challenge involving oversized pants, drawing loud encouragement from classmates and playful groans from participants.
The program then paused to recognize winter sports and activities. Captains from various teams took the microphone to share brief updates and shout outs, reinforcing the sense that SnoWeek belongs to the whole school, not just those on the court.
Next came junior and senior coronations, the emotional centerpiece of the event. Junior court members spoke openly about the people who matter most to them. Karolina Meza Gonzalez praised her brother, saying, “I chose Victor because growing up with him taught me the importance of love and support.” Danzel Saliente highlighted a teacher who made school feel welcoming, saying, “She is honestly one of the main reasons I enjoy coming to school every day.”
Senior court introductions followed with equal warmth and humor. Students thanked parents, siblings, teammates, and friends. Haley Siebenaler described her sister as someone she strives to be like every day, while Sam Dannenberg credited his mom for inspiring his creativity. Matthew Maulucci closed his remarks with appreciation for his parents, saying, “Thank you mom and dad!”
With crowns placed and photos taken, the gym floor quickly transformed again for the final rounds of games. A pool noodle relay had teams racing across the floor, followed by a sleeping bag race that had competitors inching their way forward as the crowd counted and shouted encouragement.
Before the final announcement, reminders were shared about the evening trip to Nickelodeon Universe, including check in times, wristbands, and transportation details. The practical pause did little to dampen the energy, as anticipation built for the Spirit Cup results.
When the winner was finally announced, the reaction was immediate. After a close competition between juniors and seniors throughout the week, the Spirit Cup went to the seniors, who stormed the court amid cheers and applause.
As students filtered out of the gym, the mood was light and upbeat. SnoWeek pep fest once again delivered laughter, recognition, and shared memories, a reminder that sometimes the best moments of the school year happen when everyone is cheering together.
