The Hastings High School girls track and field team closed out their season with a series of strong performances at the Class AAA State Meet, showcasing grit, speed, and promising potential for the future.
Junior Ellie Magnus proved to be a force across multiple events. She sprinted her way to a 5th-place finish in the 200-meter finals, clocking in at 25.36 seconds. Earlier in the week, she had narrowly made the cut with a 9th-place finish in the prelims (25.43). In the 100-meter dash, Magnus placed 10th in the prelims with a time of 12.36 seconds. She also competed in the long jump, where she landed at 16-00.00, good for 20th place.
Magnus anchored Hastings’ 4x200 relay team, which advanced to the finals with a 5th-place time of 1:41.36 in prelims. The group, which also included Carlee Kordosky, Olyvia Erickson, and Jersey Appert, finished 9th in the finals (1:48.45).
Senior Carlee Kordosky capped her high school career with a 4th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a personal season record of 14.86 seconds. She had qualified with a 15.11 in prelims. Kordosky also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing 17th in prelims.
In the 400 meters, junior Olyvia Erickson impressed with a personal record of 56.56 seconds in prelims, earning her a spot in the finals. She placed 7th overall, finishing in 57.31 seconds.
Freshman Mya Bauer showed big promise for the future. She cleared 5-02.00 in the high jump, placing 9th, and also reached 34-07.25 in the triple jump, finishing 15th.
Senior Lauren Whitfield competed in the discus but unfortunately fouled on all attempts.
Despite not taking home any gold, the Raiders delivered several top-ten finishes and personal bests at the highest level of competition. With underclassmen like Magnus, Erickson, and Bauer leading the way, Hastings' future in girls track looks bright.
