It would be simple to say that Jason Koch became a teacher because both of his parents were also teachers. Most kids look up to their parents and want to be just like them. But that was only part of the reason for Mr. Koch.

Koch always enjoyed helping and interacting with others as he grew up, but his “drive to become a teacher comes from the desire to care about others and build relationships with them, in order to help them be the best people they can be. Ultimately, I hope to have a positive impact on my students, my community and the world as a whole.”

And that is working out well for him. Ask him what the best part of his job is, and he will say building relationships with students and being a positive person in their lives.

His 17 years of teaching follows him receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Science Education from St. Cloud State University, in addition to a Master’s degree in cell, molecular and organismal biology as well.

As a classroom instructor, Koch appreciates everything parents do to support their kids, and encourages them to stay involved throughout their school experience.

“Teachers honestly want the best for each and every student,” he said. “Sometimes things will be tough and difficult, but it is working through these challenges that helps kids to grow into the people they are capable of being.”

In addition to his great work teaching science to our high school students, Jason gives back to our kids in many other ways as well.

Kids are fortunate to have his dedication as a coach on the varsity football team, as well as on both the boys and girls track teams. Koch also works as a Raider Express Organizer, and an FCA Huddle Coach.

When Jason finds free time outside of teaching and coaching, he enjoys the great outdoors hunting, fishing and biking, in addition to traveling with his family.

Koch has made a huge positive impact on our kids both as a teacher and coach. It’s the dedication we see in ISD200 staff like Jason that shows we are #200Strong!
