Dairy Store, Spiral open in new locations

Two coop stores in Hastings made major moves happen last week to expand their offerings and update their facilities, The Hastings Dairy Store and Spiral Food Coop. Both of the moves involved moving less than a block for both stores.

Hastings Dairy Store

The Hastings Dairy Store, located at 1701 Vermillion St. has made a move with a major update right across the street to 1700 Vermillion St. The store, part of the Hastings Cooperative Creamery that was built in 1950, has sold locallysourced dairy products to area residents for decades. It is also a favorite spot for folks to stop and pick up a very affordable malt on hot summer days.

The coop purchased the old Sun Kissed tanning building and made most of it a store front, moving the Dairy Store there. The space is bright and inviting with new refrigeration equipment with locally sourced dairy and other items for sale. You can also still stop in for a delicious, refreshing malt! The new location opened on June 17, just in time for the high temp week to start.

Spiral Food Coop Spiral Food Coop, a community owned food coop established in Hastings in 1979, has been in a few different locations in Hastings since it opened. The most recent location was at the corner of Westview Dr. and Highway 55, officially located at 1250 S. Frontage Road. Spiral is staying in the same building, just moving down a door to occupy the space formally the MGM store.

The move next door doubles the stores square footage for the local grocery store. It also ads a deli space as well as a seating area for guests to enjoy their lunch or a coffee. The new space and extra square footage also allowed the store to have an expanded selection of items and wider aisles with a much more open shopping experience. The checkout area is another area that benefited from the additional space with three register options along with a desk for the staff to assist with wellness needs.

The Hastings Dairy Store is open Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Spiral Food Coop is open 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
