Raiders dominate Visitation

Hastings Girls Hockey Day is a great young tradition celebrating the impact that girls have on the Hastings hockey programs. The day features games from a variety of levels of the girls hockey program and culminates with the Raiders varsity girls taking the ice in the afternoon right after the all-girls hockey picture is snapped for the year. This year, Hastings faced Visitation, winning 8-0 and moving to 2-1 for the season.
Hastings continued the aggressive play from the first two games of the season and despite taking a couple less-than-ideal shots at times during the first period of play, they dominated the Blazers nearly all game. In the first 17 minutes of play, Hastings took 12 shots to Visitations 3 and easily spent 13 or more minutes with the puck on the Blazer’s half of the rink. It took less than four minutes for the Raiders to score, Freshman Anni Schriefer logged her first varsity point when she connected with Grace Petrich who then set up Lauren Muhl for her first goal of the season.
Olyvia Erickson scored her first goal of the season at 11:26 into the first period, assisted by Addie Seleski and Josie Hamann. Then, with 1:59 left to go in the period, Erickson paid the favor back to Seleski with the second assist going to Jade Schauer to put the Raiders up 3-0.
The second period was even busier for the scorekeepers, 16 seconds into the period, Kacey Plank found white lace with assists going to Erickson and Petrich. Things slowed for about ten minutes then the Raiders strung three more goals together in a span of six minutes.
Schriefer scored her first goal of her varsity career thanks to a pass from Haley Siebenaler at 10:48 in the second. Seleski added to her team leading four points, scoring her second goal at 14:14 with assists going to Schriefer and Muhl. Not to be left out of the scoring or varsity firsts, eighth grader Carly Jacobson popped one by the Blazer keeper for her first varsity goal with 10 seconds left in the second period.
With Hastings up 7-0, Head Coach Jim Joseph made a few changes for the third period. Addison Lanning tagged Victoria Steinke out at goalie for her first varsity action. Steinke saw six total shots in her 34 minutes of action of those six shots, maybe two were quality shots with a couple really low angle shots from the side of the net. Steinke almost looked bored because her defense was outstanding in front of her, keeping the puck away from the net mostly by keeping it in the Blazer’s end of the rink all game. Lanning saw five total shots as the duo pitched a shutout between the two of them.
With the large lead heading into the third, the entire third period was running time but that did not matter to Seleski who earned her second hat trick in three games. Jacobson earned her second varsity point assisting Seleski at 14:26 of the third period and in the end, Hastings thumped Visitation 8-0.
Six Raiders scored in the game with five of them earning their first goal of the young season and two scoring their first ever varsity goals of their young career. Seleski doubled her points for the season logging four, Erickson, Petrich and Schriefer each had three. Jacobson and Muhl each had two and Siebenaler, Plank, Hamann and Schauer all had one a piece.
Both teams had two penalties for four minutes and both teams successfully stopped the powerplays. Hastings crushed the shots on goal, outshooting the Blazers 46-11.
The next opportunity to watch the girls live is at home on Nov. 22 for a 6:30 p.m. puck drop against the River Falls area coop team.
