A 19-year-old Prescott man was booked into the Dakota County (MN) jail May 2 on charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony, and misdemeanor 4th degree driving while impaired.
Gabriel Michael Smoot, 177 Tower Heights Rd., allegedly led police in a chase and was apprehended after an officer performed a PIT (pursuit Intervention Technique) to stop his vehicle.
A South St. Paul Police officer saw a vehicle driven by Smoot with expired registration. The officer attempted a traffic stop, and the vehicle driven by Smoot accelerated. Another officer then initiated the stop technique about .3 miles later.
Officers observed slurred speech and could smell the odor of alcohol. An open 1.75 liter bottle of vodka was found on the front passenger floorboard. Smoot reportedly told police he didn’t stop because his Wisconsin driver’s license was suspended, and he didn’t want the vehicle he was driving to be towed.
His blood alcohol content measured 0.08.
