The Minnesota Supreme Court denied a petition asking for further review of the Camille Lashay Dennis-Bond case, announced Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena.
According to court documents, on April 4, 2021 Ms. Dennis-Bond was racing against a car driven by her brother, whose car reached 114 mph and hit a Honda CRV that was by occupied by Dalton Lee Ford and Tayler Nicole Garza. The collision happened on County Road 42 near Newton Avenue where the posted speed limit is 50 mph. Both Ford and Garza were 22 years old at the time of the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene.
In December 2022, a Dakota County jury convicted Ms. Dennis-Bond, now 22 years old, of two counts of murder in the third degree, two counts of criminal vehicular homicide (gross negligence), criminal vehicular operation resulting in great bodily harm (gross negligence) and careless driving.
Ms. Dennis-Bond was sentenced on March 24, 2023 to 15 years in prison by Dakota County District Judge Tim Wermager and remains in custody with the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
