McVicker has hot hand at holiday tournament

The Hastings girls basketball team advanced to the title game of its own holiday tournament but fell in the finals to Farmington by a 61-42 score on Friday evening.
On Thursday, in game one of the Hastings Holiday Tournament, the Raiders handled Northfield 62-41.
Against Northfield in the battle of the Raiders, Hastings’ Keagan McVicker was the difference-maker. Northfield had no answer for the 5’10” junior, who poured in 30 points, hitting 11-20 shots including three three-pointers. She also was 5-7 from the free throw line, she grabbed seven rebounds and had six steals.
Haley Strain scored nine points for the Raiders, while Kate Ruder had eight, Emma Bakker six, Rachel Notch four, Jillian McTague three and Brooke Mace two.
Lindsey Wanger had four assists.
Against Farmington, the Tigers blew open a close game in the second half, outscoring the Raiders 35-18 in that stanza.
McVicker again had a big game, scoring 24 points and snaring nine rebounds.
Strain finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Ruder had four points, while Mace, Ellie Magnus and Piper Brockman had two apiece.
The Raiders had a hard time handline the ball, finishing with 23 turnovers.
Hastings, with a 5-5 mark in non-conference play, turns its attention to the Metro East Conference. The Raiders travel to Tartan Friday and host Mahtomedi Tuesday. Game times are 7 p.m.
