June was born on June 1,1929, to Rudolph and Alice (Bergstrom) Nygren in Minneapolis, MN. She attended Marshall High School in Minneapolis, where she also participated in a work study program at Barber Oil Co. June married Roger Erickson on June 1,1951, at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis, MN. June and Roger were very involved in First Covenant and met many of their lifelong friends through the church. After years living in Hastings, MN, June and Roger felt inspired to help start a Covenant Church in Cottage Grove, MN, which at that time was named Community Covenant Church and is now Crossroads Church. June volunteered in many areas of ministry and is remembered for her quiet, unassuming service to all those she came into contact with.
In 1961, their entrepreneurial spirit led them to move to Hastings, MN and open a Gambles Hardware Store. Eventually, they began selling boats alongside the hardware store, which evolved into their long-term business, Erickson Marine. June’s business mind was instrumental in helping support the company’s growth.
June was an avid lover of people, which she lived out through a come-as-you-are hospitality. She loved visiting and having people enjoy the water, beach, and boats. June always welcomed everyone to come and ‘hang-loose’ at her river home. She embodied a light-hearted confidence, a bright spirit, and a contagious smile that beamed like a ray of sunshine. June also enjoyed reading, bible studies, and knitting. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and enjoyed spending winters in Florida for many years.
June is survived by her children Joy Erickson, Nancy (Rob) Withers and Jon (Dawn) Erickson; five grandchildren; Erik, Kierin, Lauren, Julia and Luke; six great grandchildren; and her brother Melton (Mary) Nygren. June is preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Alice Nygren; husband Roger; brother Clifford Nygren and sister-in-law Vicki Nygren.
