Hastings Journal named official newspaper of Dakota County

Posted

The Hastings Journal was named the official newspaper of Dakota County by the Dakota County Board of Commissioners Tuesday morning.
The Journal will have the contract for publishing of legal notices and official Dakota County Board and Dakota County proceedings from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 22026.
For many years, a Hastings newspaper was the official Dakota County newspaper. When that paper went out of print in 2020, Dakota County was forced to turn to a different publication.
The Hastings Journal was one of two newspapers who placed competitive bids to be the official newspaper.
“We’re excited for this opportunity to serve Dakota County,” said Publisher John McLoone. “This saves money for Dakota County taxpayers. Public notices are an important part of government and getting the word out of what government bodies are doing. We’re glad that information is going to be in the Hastings Journal now.”
It will also save money for people who have to publish a variety of legal notices, whether it’s for setting up a new business, changing a name or for probate purposes. The Hastings Journal rates are significantly less than other publications.
The Hastings Journal started publishing the second week of May 2020, the week after the previous newspaper ceased publication.
“We really appreciate the support we receive from the Hastings community. In 3-1/2 years we’ve eclipsed the circulation of a newspaper that published here for generations, and that’s a testimony to how strong of a sense of community that Hastings has,” said McLoone.
The Hastings Journal is also the newspaper of record for the City of Hastings and the Hastings School District and publishes notices for area townships.
