In an article in the Jan. 24, 2024 Hastings Journal, organization of tours of the Hastings City Hall on Jan. 19 was credited to the Hastings Arts & Culture Commission and the Hastings Heritage Preservation Commission. The second group wasn’t involved. Credit for this great event should have included the very active Hastings Area Historical Society.

The Hastings Area Historical Society’s mission:

• The Hastings Area Historical Society preserves, interprets and promotes the distinctive history of the Hastings Community.
• We identify and encourage access to historical resources and knowledge, sponsor programs and events, raise funds, volunteer and collaborate with like-minded organizations.
• We believe that preserving the historic fabric of our community enhances its identify for current and future generations.

The next HAHS meeting will be in the city council chambers of the Hastings City Hall at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

After the business meeting, the group will talk about the new exhibit in the Pioneer Room and some architectural details that will be featured in future tours.
