The Hastings girls basketball team started Metro East Conference play off on the right foot, defeating host Tartan, 65-51, Friday night.
The Raiders were in control throughout, buoyed by three scorers in double figures. Keagan McVicker scored 22 points to lead all scorers and had an incredible stat line to go along with that. She also grabbed nine rebounds, had seven assists and nine steals as the Titans had no answer for the 5’10” junior.
Haley Strain and Emma Bakker each had double-double performances. Strain had 16 points and an astonishing 19 rebounds, and Bakker had 14 points and snared 11 boards. McVicker also had nine rebounds.
Rachel Notch also had a big game with eight points and seven rebounds. Sophia Swanson added three points and Piper Brockman chipped in with two and nine rebounds.
Hastings had 32 offensive and 32 defensive rebounds as a team.
Mahtomedi jumped out to a 3-0 Metro East Mark, with Hastings, Two Rivers and Simley all winning game one.
Hastings was scheduled to play Mahtomedi Jan. 9. They host South St. Paul Friday at 7 p.m. and travel to Simley for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Jan. 17 as conference play kicks into high gear.
