Hastings had three decisions to make during the primary election: narrow the field from six candidates for City Council to four, narrow the race for Dakota County Attorney from four to two, and decide who the Republican candidate for Senate district 41 will be.
The city council race started with seven candidates, Ian Martin, Tom Wright, Angie Haus, Dave Pemble, Joe Balsanek and Dennis Peine. Dean Markuson was also on the bal
lot, but officially withdrew his can didacy after the ballots were
printed. The primary for city coun cil narrowed the field from six to four. The four moving on from the primary are: Angie Haus – 1,166
