Early voting is underway for the Hastings Independent School District #200 being held Nov. 7. School district elections are managed by the Hastings School District and Dakota County elections. Early voting is available at the school district office and the Dakota County Administrative Building. Election Day voting is at your local precinct. City Hall is not a polling location for the Hastings school district election.
How Do I Vote Early In-Person or Vote from Home via Mail?
Absentee Balloting Voting
District residents may vote early through absentee ballot through Monday, November 6.
Absentee balloting is conducted either in person or via mail. Here is how you can vote through these avenues.
Instructions to receive an absentee ballot and vote via mail:
Step 1: Request an absentee ballot application to be sent to you via mail.

Step 2: Return your absentee ballot application in one of four ways:

Step 3: Once your absentee ballot application has been completed and submitted to the Dakota County Elections Department, you will be handed or mailed an absentee ballot.
Step 4: Your absentee ballot can be completed at home and returned with the pre-paid return envelope or returned in-person to one of two locations:

In-person absentee ballot voting can be done at the Dakota County Offices and service centers as well as at the Hastings School District Office.

Voting absentee in person will require that you complete an absentee ballot application and a voting ballot and seal your absentee ballot into an envelope to be processed and tabulated once absentee ballots are able to be processed.
All absentee ballots can be submitted in person until November 6, 2023, by 3:00 PM. All absentee ballots sent via mail must be received no later than 8:00 p.m. on November 7, 2023 (Election Day). All ballots received after this time will not be counted.
How Do I Vote Early via Direct Balloting?
Direct balloting is available on the dates listed and during the hours listed below. When voting during the direct balloting period, rather than sealing the absentee ballot into an envelope to be processed and tabulated later, in-person voters will insert their ballots directly into a ballot tabulator at their early absentee voting location.

How Do I Vote on Election Day?
Election Day is November 7, 2023. There will be five combined polling places for this special election that will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you are unsure of where to go on Election Day, please visit the Minnesota Secretary of State Polling Place finder at pollfinder.sos.state.mn. You will need to enter your address, and it will tell you your polling place. Polling places are:

How Do I Register to Vote?
You can register to vote online before November 7 through the Minnesota Secretary of State website to save time on Election Day. If you forget to register before Election Day, Minnesota allows same-day voter registration.
Who’s Eligible to Vote in the 2023 Referendum Special Election?
Generally speaking, anyone who is 18 years old by Election Day, is a U.S. citizen, has been a resident of Minnesota for at least 20 days, and resides within the Hastings School District #200 attendance area is eligible to vote on the November 7 Election Day referendum.
