HASTINGS – Dakota County celebrated the completion of the Vermillion River Greenway on Tuesday, May 6 with a ribbon cutting at Vermillion Falls Park.
The 2.1-mile section of the Vermillion Falls Greenway connects both to the Mississippi River Greenway and the Hastings 10-mile loop. As of last year, with the completion of the Mississippi River Greenway at the Fahey Trailhead, the path now extends all the way to St. Paul, a point reiterated at the event.
“From right here, you can get all the way to Pine Island in St. Paul,” said Dakota County Commissioner Mike Slavik.
Dakota County currently oversees 48 miles of greenways across the county with plans for expansion with the Veterans Memorial Greenway, Rosemount Greenway, and Vermillion Highlands Greenway laid out in the 2030 Greenway Vision.
“We are so grateful to have Dakota County as a partner and to keep those greenways coming!” said Mayor Mary Fasbender.
