Staff report
They’re back.
With the surge in COVID-19 Omicron variant cases, the City of Hastings will again turn to the Zoom format for meetings.
The City Council approved a Local Emergency Declaration at its meeting last Tuesday night that will allow city council and city commission members to virtually attend meetings.
The city held all meetings on the Zoom format from the start of the COVID pandemic through last June, when the city council returned to in-person meetings. Shortly after that, when the Delta variant surged, the plexiglass partitions returned between council members.
Now, as the new rapidly-spreading variant sweeps through communities, the Zoom format will be available for those who don’t feel comfortable or safe with in-person attendance. The emergency declaration covers meetings through Feb. 28.
