Confetti, community and celebration: Hastings Walmart unveils remodel

Posted

With a burst of color and community spirit, the newly remodeled Walmart in Hastings officially “reopened” its doors Friday morning, marking the occasion with a lively ribbon cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries, customers, and store associates.
Store Manager Steven Jowett stood proudly beside Hastings Mayor Mary Fasbender as the ceremonial ribbon was cut — timed perfectly with an explosion of confetti that sent cheers across the bustling parking lot.
“Here’s to a new beginning, lasting gratitude, and a strong future together,” Jowett said as the crowd applauded.
The event was not just a celebration of a physical transformation, but a reaffirmation of WalMart’s commitment to the Hastings community. The festivities included music, food, giveaways, and a warm tribute to those who serve — with a moment of silence held in honor of veterans and active-duty military members.
“To the veterans and service members in our community, we thank you,” Jowett added during his remarks.
In addition to showcasing the store’s sleek renovations, the grand reopening also featured a gesture of generosity. Walmart presented contributions to several key local organizations as part of its Community Appreciation initiative. Among the recipients were the City of Lakeland Police Department, the United Way of Hastings, and the Dakota County Historical Society.
Mayor Fasbender joined Jowett and the store’s two longest-serving associates, Vicky and Julie, in holding the ribbon during the cutting ceremony. Their presence underscored the store’s legacy in Hastings and the dedicated individuals who help it thrive.
Jowett extended gratitude to all who made the remodel and celebration possible, including construction crews, planning teams, and supplier.
“We appreciate the countless hours, coordination, and passion it took to bring this vision to life,” he said.
