March 21st was a very emotional day for members of the Minnesota National Guard and their families. Charlie Company 134 Brigade Support Battalion deployed as part of a task force to the middle east for a nine-month mission in support of Operation Spartan Shield.
While deployed, the Soldiers will have responsibilities within the central command area of operations for the Operation Spartan Shield response force mission. In total, there will be around 1,100 members from the Minnesota National Guard units deployed on this mission. The task force includes Soldiers from the following units: 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor – Brainerd Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor – Camp Ripley Company A, 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor – Sauk Centre Company B, 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor – St. Cloud Company C, 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor – East St. Paul Company A, 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry – Detroit Lakes Company B, 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry – Crookston Company C, 134th Brigade Support Battalion – Cottage Grove Company G, 134th Brigade Support Battalion – Camp Ripley The Soldiers will spend time in Texas for additional training before moving overseas.
The send off from the Cottage Grove Armory had support from Hastings City Council member Lori Braucks, Cottage Grove City Council member, Steve Dennis, Senator Karla Bigham, Members from the Local American Legion 98, Cottage Grove VFW and Cottage Grove Families.
Local 120 stood guard on the 70th street bridge and the Patriot Guard, Combat Vets and Cottage Grove Police department provided the escort.
To all the families and Soldiers involved, please accept our sincerest thanks for your service and please return home safe.
