Celebration of Trees set for May 31

Posted

Since 1996, Hastings has been recognized as a Tree City, USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. To commemorate that honor, the Hastings Environmental Protectors (HEP) and Hastings Area Historical Society (HAHS) will be hosting a “Celebration in Honor of Trees” at Oakwood Cemetery on Saturday, May 31st, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The event will include:
• tree experts to answer questions about planting, pruning and treating trees to prevent disease
• a table with educational information about the many benefits of trees in our community
• family activities including a craft table and a scavenger hunt in a historic setting.
Hastings Area Historical Society will be providing history of one of the first cemeteries in Hastings with the help of costumed characters who are “residents” in Oakwood.
Oakwood Cemetery is located at the top of Featherstone Road adjacent to Hastings High School. Parking is available in the school parking lot.
