Dakota County, MN – The Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is proud to announce Callister Farms as their 2024 Outstanding Conservationist.
The Dakota SWCD Board selected the Callister Farms as this year’s Outstanding Conservationist. Chip and Micki Callister maintain a 30 pair cow – calf operation and are stewards of 900 acres of land in Dakota and Goodhue County. Callister Farms were nominated for this year’s award for their long history of implementing conservation practices including planting cover crops using drones, conservation tillage practices, converting irrigation systems from high pressure to low-pressure systems, implementing an irrigation water management plan, installing diversions, and most recently a grassed waterway project in the Pine Creek Watershed.
In addition to a lifetime commitment to the family farm, Chip and Micki are advocates of youth sports. The Callister’s coach basketball and volleyball at Cannon Falls and Randolph area schools.
Every year, the SWCD honors a landowner, business, or organization for their contributions to conserve or restore natural resources in Dakota County. The SWCD commends Callister Farms for being leaders in conservation and supporting water quality and soil health practices.
