An Update from Senator Bigham

Hello Neighbors We knew the 2021 legislative session would be a challenging one due to the difficulties of a covid session, and these circumstances along with divided government made it difficult for us to get the work of completing a budget finished on time almost impossible. Furthermore, this year was startling in its lack of transparency for concerned Minnesotans. We cannot make behind closed door deal making the norm of our legislative business.

Though our work is incomplete, leadership in the Senate, House, and the Governor have agreed on budget targets. We are operating in a “working group” process to find compromise and put together the individual budget bills necessary to create the complete state biannual budget. I am participating in the judiciary and transportation working groups. I will work with my colleagues to ensure the final budget helps us recover from the effects of this covid year, and that Minnesotans have a voice in these conversations.

We will have a special session to complete the remainder of our work sometime in mid-June. This will give us time to get a final budget in place without a government shutdown. It also gives us more time to understand just how the federal funding passed in the latest aid package can be used for our cities, counties, and state spending.

As a reminder Hwy 316 is closed between Malcolm Ave. and Tuttle Dr. Those of you that live in or near Tuttle Dr. on either side of Hwy 316 must follow the signed detour. Those detours are as follows: – East side of Hwy 316 — use temporary bypass to access Hwy 316 to or from Co. Rd. 91 – West side of Hwy 316 — Martin Ln. to Michael Ave. to access Hwy 316 to or from Co. Rd. 91 Travelers should not enter a road that is closed or marked as private to bypass this closure. This work is part of a summer-long project on Hwy 316 to add three roundabouts, add medians, and pave the road between Michael Ave. to north of Spiral Ave.
