The Raiders Alpine ski season normally feels shorter than the rest due to fewer competitions compared to other winter sports. This season even more so with the condensed natureof the schedule. Both teams will travel to Buck Hill on Monday the 22nd for the final race of the regular season where the top six teams from each boys and girls will continue on in preparation of the section meet at Wild Mountain on March third.
Most recently, the team continued their weekly competitions, even in the brutally cold weather, racing against Northfield and Rochester and then St. Thomas / Visitation and Hill Murray most recently on Thursday the 11th.
Against Rochester and Northfield, Head Coach Jason Gergen felt his team did well, “The girls finished third with our top skiers being Taylor Pelava, seventh grader Claire Caturia, and Lydia Huntington all finishing inside the top 20. Kira Lindstrom, Jolie Pettit, Ella Kelly, Mia Molitor, and Morgan Bolland were also team contributors.”
“The boys continued their good skiing, finishing first. Aaron Herber was the race winner with Jacob Schield, Jackson Reents, and Gavin Molitor all finishing inside the top 10. James Millhollin, Charlie Vier, and Finn Caturia were also contributors,” Gergen said.
For the Thursday meet versus Visitation and Hill Murray for the girls, they finished third and were led by Jolie Pettit, Taylor Pelava, Lydia Huntington, and Kira Lindstrom “The boys also finished third in a tough race with Jackson Reents winning the race and Aaron Herber finishing third. Caleb Kimmes and Jacob Schield were other Hastings skiers to score points,” Gergen said about the results against St. Thomas and Hill Murray.
The nice thing for Coach Gergen is his team is young, which means he will have them for a few years yet and given their performances thus far, big things are on the horizon for Hastings Alpine.
