27th Annual Relay for Life to take place Friday August 6th The 27th annual Relay for Life event will take place Friday August 6, 2021 from 6pm – 11pm. The event will take place at Levee Park / Rotary Pavilion, right on this Mississippi River in downtown Hastings. It will feature two great musical acts, Fistful of Ladies, and Michael Kampa, who will be joined by Kurt Radtke and Jared Bohlken. Thanks to our generous local businesses, Hastings Public House will have their delicious food for sale, they will also be providing free dinner for our Survivors. 2nd Street Depot will be on site with adult beverages for sale!
This is a great night of friendship, remembrance, music and fun. There will be some kid’s activities as this is a family friendly FREE event.
According to event lead Linda Kampa, “The Relay for Life movement is dedicated to helping communities attack cancer. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, our communities are teaming up – virtually or in person – to make a difference. When we rally together in the fight against cancer, we can accomplish anything. Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, Relay for Life events symbolize the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer. In the weeks and months leading up to the event, volunteers, teams and individuals use their creativity to raise cancer-fighting dollars.”
Kampa continued, “Covid has made things tough for every person and organization in the world. The American Cancer Society is no exception. Many people were forced to miss critical oncology appointments, miss treatments and the loss of funding has had a huge impact. We are fortunate that we are able to gather live and in person, but we need YOUR support. Please come out, take in the beautiful view of the river, listen to some amazing music, eat some great food…then take a walk and view our luminary bags as our way of remembering those who have lost their battle to cancer, but more importantly as we celebrate those who are still with us and continue fighting this horrible disease!”
Luminaria bags will be lit around 9pm. Walk of silence/remembrance will take place at approximately 930.
This is a free event and open to the community, bring your friends and family members. We will be taking donations as well as selling luminaria bags.
