The sports week that wasn’t

It is to be expected that you, the reader, came looking for the first massive sports section of the spring season for Hastings. Sadly, Mother Nature has been very unkind to the area between the flooding and the cold weather. The Raiders are feeling the effects of the weather, too. There were 25 different games scheduled for the varsity sports for the week of April 17-23 and of those scheduled, only 10 were able to be played. Of the 10 that happened, lacrosse games were all played throughout the week because of the ability to play on turf fields, tennis managed to play on Saturday morning because the rain held off long enough to get the matches in and the rest happened on the only nice day of the week, Tuesday.

That means 15 different events were rescheduled or cancelled in an already condensed season.

April 17th

Softball vs Eastview was rescheduled to April 28 at 4:15 p.m. at home.

Baseball was moved to the 18th, so the game was played just a day later.

April 18th

Boys Golf was moved to May 8th at Hastings Golf Club at 3:00 p.m.

Girls Golf was postponed but no makeup date was made available by press time.

April 19th

Boys Golf was postponed but no makeup date was made available by press time.

Baseball was moved to April 25th.

April 20th

Boys Golf was rescheduled to April 28th at Manitou Ridge 2:00 p.m.

Tennis was rescheduled to April 28th at South St. Paul 3:30 p.m.

Softball was rescheduled to April 26th at Simley 4:15 p.m.

Baseball against Park was rescheduled a second time this year to May 9th at home 4:30 p.m.

April 21st

Girls Golf rescheduled to May 16th vs Hill-Murray at Hidden Greens 3:00 p.m.

Tennis rescheduled to April 28 at South St. Paul 3:30 p.m.

Both track team’s vs River Falls were cancelled.

Baseball was rescheduled to April 27th at Tartan 4:30 p.m.

Spring sports alone are a huge indicator of the need for a sports bubble in Hastings. Having a sports bubble with a turf field that can be used year-round for sports would be an incredible addition to the community for both recreational league sports as well as high school sports. Until that can happen, we will continue to see many early spring season games postponed due to weather.
