Frequent drivers along Highway 55 in Hastings should have noticed by now that the rebuilding of the roadside tennis courts is well underway. The destruction phase of the work began the morning of July 26 with demolition crews removing parts of the fence for access and the full removal of the base material as well as the old net poles.
As of Monday, July 31, crews were already replacing the underlayment in preparation for the new surfaces to be installed. The completion of the rebuilding is expected to occur by September 15 assuming no major delays.
In previous basketball court rebuilds, there were a few weeks of curing time before the final painting of the courts and lines could be done. Expect the courts to “look ready’ for a few weeks with no construction activity and no access to the playing surface until the completion in September. The completed courts will have three tennis courts alongside eight pickleball courts.
