The Hastings girls basketball team built an early lead in defeating Bloomington Kennedy 69-55 at home on Thursday, Dec. 21.
The Raiders connected on 52% of their shots on the night. Keagan McVicker finished with 24 points to lead all scorer. She also had five assists, six rebounds and two steals.
Haley Strain scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Emma Bakker scored 14 points. Lindsey Wagner added six points, while Rachel Notch, Kate Ruder and Piper Brockman had two each.
With the win, the Raiders are 4-4 in early-season play. They will be in action this week at the Hastings Holiday Tournament with a game against Northfield Thursday at 7 p.m. Hastings will play at either 3:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. Friday against either Farmington or Irondale.
Hastings boys down Woodbury
The Hastings boys basketball team upped its non-conference record to 4-3 with a 75-62 win at Woodbury on Thursday.
The boys will be in action against Prescott Thursday, Dec. 28 for a 5:15 p.m. game as part of the Hastings Holiday Tournament.
Against Woodbury, the Raiders were led by four scorers in double figures. Kyan Esterby had 22 points, connecting on 4-6 from behind the three-point line. Kellen Nuyten scored 14 points, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Owen Bernatz had 12 points and nine rebounds, while Matthew Foss had 11 points and four assists.
Weston Schult managed the offense with eight assists in the game.
In the second game of the HHS Holiday Tournament, the Raiders will play either Irondale or St. Louis Park. The third place game is set for 1:45 p.m. Friday, and the championship game is at 5:15 p.m.
