Harry Robert Snyder, age 78 of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Jan. 19, 2023.

Harry was born on Sept. 21, 1944, to Charles and Emma (Ogren) Snyder of Hastings. Harry grew up in Hastings and lived his entire life there. He graduated Hastings High School in 1962. From there in 1965, he enlisted in the Army Reserves. He worked at the fertilizer company for 10 years before going to Koch Re昀nery. He worked at Koch Re昀nery for 28 years. He then worked for the pipe 昀tter’s union until retirement.

It was in 1966 when his good friend Wayne took him to South Dakota to pheasant hunt that he met the love of his life, Marge. Harry married Marjory Jo (York) Snyder on July 13, 1968. They had three children together, Eric, Kristine, and Kimberly. Harry and Marge lived in the town of Hastings up until 1971 then moved to Marshan Township and built a house where he resided until his passing.

Harry was an amazing man and cared deeply for his family. He would build snow forts, color easter eggs, go sledding, hunt and 昀sh with his three kids. Harry was in 4-H as a kid, and he shared that passion with his children and grandchildren alike. Nothing made him happier or would put a bigger smile on his face than when he got to watch his kids or grandkids showing livestock at the county or state fair. Harry loved spending time on the farm and getting to spend time with the kids/grandkids talking cattle. He also loved the time he spent in the garden. Whether it was the peace and quiet while weeding or the fact he could sneak all the veggies and fruit while no one was looking. After retirement, Harry loved traveling with Marge. They visited many places with family and friends.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Emma Snyder; brothers, Fred and Richard Snyder; and daughter-in-law, Jean Snyder.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Marjory; children, Eric (Colleen) Snyder, Kristine (Gannon) O’Meara, and Kimberly Haas; grandchildren, Jacob Snyder, Emma Smith, Alexander Smith, Kailey Smith, Graysen O’Meara, and Kaitlyn Snyder; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
