The Hastings Alpine Ski Team recently ventured north on a rainy winter night to Wild Mountain to compete in the January 16, 2023, Jack Zahr Memorial Race. Despite incredibly challenging course conditions and rainy weather, the Raiders proved once again that they can handle anything! The girls team faced some stiff competition among seven competing schools including top ranked Hill Murray and Minneapolis Washburn. The Raider girls placed fourth overall and were led by junior Abbi Pelava who placed third out of a field of 50 girls. Eighth grader Kate Nowak and senior Mallory Karnick rounded out the top twenty in 12th and 16th place respectively. The rest of the girl’s team included Claire Caturia, Maddie Herdt, Anna Lena Seipelt, Hannah Millner, Alexa Loritz and Addison Maniak who all added valuable points to the team.

The Hastings Raider boys team flexed their muscle on their way to victory placing first as a team with four of the boys placing in the top 10! Junior Jackson Reents dominated the meet taking the overall win followed by senior Aaron Herber in second, junior Cole Caturia in fifth, and senior Zach Rother in ninth place. Sophomore Gavin Molitor placed 19th, with senior Jacob Shield and sophomore Finn Caturia following closely behind in 22nd and 23rd place respectively. Gaining experience and adding points to the team included Axton Bauer, James Millholin and Will Bauer.

The Boys JV Squad gave it their all on that rainy night placing third. The JV Squad included James McNamara, Jadon Mike, Weston Chandler, Nathan Shield, Fischer Kaufman, Matt Muench, Jed Chamberlain, Trent Schulte, Chase Sampson and Jens Kaufman. The future of the Hastings Alpine Ski Team looks bright!
