Joan Grier 1929-2022

Joan C. Grier (Langenfeld), age 93, passed away on Nov. 29, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born on September 1, 1929 in Hastings, MN to A.A (Bill) and Eleanor (Lovejoy) Langenfeld.
Joan graduated from Hastings High School. She was a 4th grade teacher at Guardian Angels. She also was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for many years, an election judge, and worked at the Bierstube as a waitress for 15 years.

She married James Grier on January 13, 1951. They were married 65 years until his passing in 2016, together they raised 8 children.

Joan and Jim enjoyed their trips to Irelandand Cozumel, as well as time at the lake.

Joan was a devote Catholic, after she was unable to attend church, she watched Mass on on EWTN. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Twins and Vikings (She was a closet Packers fan) Joan was preceded in death by her husband, James Grier; daughters, Sue Peterson, Johanna Perry; son, John Grier; grandson, Jeffrey Perry; son-in-law, Mark Peterson; her parents; and siblings, John, Maureen, and Mary Gayle.

She is survived by children, Becky Matsch, Scott (Sharon) Grier, Jill (Wayne) Brandt, Brigitte (Jerry) Frandrup, Shannon (Fred) Brandt; son-in-law, Bruce Perry; 13 grandchildren and was G.G. to 18 great grandchildren; siblings, Bob (Heidi), Tom, Mike (Nancy), David (Michelle), and Dan Langenfeld; many cousins, nieces, nephews; and her “best friend” Susan Tate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you may send your donation to SEAS religious education for new materials for the school.

A prayer service was held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec.

7, 2022 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel with a visitation two hours prior at 9 a.m. A reception followed the service with interment at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery at 1 p.m.
