Roger Thyen 1939-2022

Roger Thyen, age 83 of Hastings, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday evening, November 26, 2022.

Roger John, the son of Benedict and Elizabeth (Reitmeier) Thyen, was born on February 10, 1939, in Richmond, Minnesota. Following his graduation from Eden Valley High School with the class of 1957, Roger enlisted in the United States Army and later received an Honorable Discharge. On November 23, 1963, Roger was united in marriage to Agnes “Aggie” Sadlowsky in Avon, Minnesota. Roger briefly worked for Cold Spring Brewery and in 1966, they moved to Hastings where Roger began his life-long career at the Hastings Post Of昀ce. Outside of working, Roger was an avid pool player and enjoyed playing baseball in high school and with the Richmond Royals. He was a talented woodworker and especially enjoyed building many models and pieces for his elaborate model train city that continually grew over the years. Roger loved animals, and was also known to have treats for all of the neighborhood dogs. Most of all, Roger was an awesome Papa to his grandchildren and cherished the time spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; precious daughter, Cathy Thyen; and by his siblings, Mary “Mickey” Adams and Leroy “Speed” Thyen; and by his four-legged best friend, Bruno.

Roger is survived by his wife of 昀fty-nine years, Aggie; daughters, Carrie Keller (Tim Samuelson) and Cindy (Dana) Collins; grandchildren, Noah (Ryann) Keller, Aric Keller (Marissa Von-

Bargen), and Riley Keller (Mike Coleson); siblings, Wallace (Darlene) Thyen, Donna (Bob) Backes, and Doris (Flip) Kalthoff; brothers and sisters-in-law, Angie Thyen, Vi (Ed) Defourneaux, Dorothy Tomsche, and Helen Lass; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. Immediately following the service, Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 will follow at church. Private family interment will be held at the parish cemetery.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., and to a reception immediately following the service, all at the church on Saturday.
