In today’s culture, everybody thinks they are entitled to have a voice in every arena of life. We email, text, snap, tweet anything our fingers want to type. I remember when in order to have a voice you needed to be in the room or at least at the table. You were held accountable for the words you chose to use, because you were face to face with the person you disagreed with. You had to prove your case or at least have a persuasive presentation.

I remember when people who were not in the room where conversation took place and who then sat around criticizing those who were present were called gossips.

when you hear, that you can earn the right to be heard.

The God of the Bible has given humanity the wonderful gift of freewill, so I also value the right of others to have a voice. Maybe the next time we want to express an opinion, we should seek some true wisdom.

Proverbs 28:5 (NIV) Evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.

Proverbs 2:6 (NIV) For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Maybe we should think before we type, like I am right now in front of my keyboard. Maybe when we count the cost of our words, we will grow to have a voice that others can enjoy and be strengthened by. May God guide your path today.
