The Raider ladies swim and dive team faced its section foe in East Ridge on Tuesday in what is likely to be the team they will square off against for the section championship.

“The girls did great,” said Head Coach Katie McAlpin. “We swam well. In the end we lost 85 to 101. This was a great opportunity for us to see what East Ridge has. They will be our biggest competition at True Team and Sections. Swimmers of the meet were Lila Salzman and Fiona Olsen. Lila broke a 27 seconds in the 50 free for the first time. She also broke a minute in the 100 free for the first time this season. Fiona cut 6 seconds on her 100 freestyle with a lifetime best time. She also broke the twominute mark in the 100 breaststroke, and achieved a lifetime best time. Diver of the meet was Ashtyn Stewart. From Coach Briana, “Ashtyn put a lot of thought into her dive list and put together the best list for herself. She focused on the dives she could do well and went out and performed them well against tough competition and tough board work.”

Thursday was the Raiders fourth conference win with their win over North St Paul 94 to 67.

“For this meet, the girls got to choose the events they wanted to swim. It was a really fun meet to watch,” explained McAlpin. “Everyone had fun. Swimmers of the meet were Stella Hilgers and Kayden Butler. Stella cut eight seconds in the 200 free and 26 in the 500 free. She had second place varsity finishes in both races. Kayden cut 39 seconds off of her season best time in the 100 backstroke. She also had a fourth place varsity finish in the 50 freestyle and a fifth place varsity finish in the 100 back. Diver of the meet was Greta Larson. Greta had a lifetime best score and most consistent meet of the season and did great on all of her dives.”

The Raiders have their fifth Metro East Conference meet against Mahtomedi on Sept 29.

“This will be our most challenging Conference meet,” added McAlpin. “That meet will be at 6:30 pm on Thursday at home. There is a MS meet before the HS one. We also have a nonconference meet against Chippewa Falls on Saturday at noon.”
