Maxine Raway 1927-2022

Maxine Cecilia (Judge) Raway, age 95 of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday night, Sept. 6, 2022, in Hastings. Maxine was the last surviving of ten siblings.

Maxine Raway, the daughter of John Francis Judge and Clare Barbara (Steffen) Judge, was born on Feb. 18, 1927, in Hastings, Minnesota.

Maxine attended Guardian Angels School, Bethlehem Academy, and graduated from Hastings High School. She also attended Saint Catherine’s College in Saint Paul, MN. Maxine worked at The Telephone Company of Hastings as a switchboard operator. She also worked at St. Raphael Hospital before going to work at Smead Manufacturing as a private secretary to Harold Hoffman. On July 22, 1950 at 11 a.m., Maxine Cecilia Judge was united in marriage to L. Marvin Raway at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings, with Reverend Patrick J. Ryan of昀ciating. Maxine was actively involved with the American Red Cross, March of Dimes, American Heart Association, Cancer Society, and served as a member of Daughters of Isabella and Saint Mary’s Rosary Society. She helped campaign for the construction of Regina Hospital, Hastings. She loved spending time with her family during the holidays, especially Christmas. She enjoyed baking, walking, and going on rides with her children.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, L. Marvin Raway; parents; sisters, Mary Jo Judge-Reuter, Kathleen (Dan) Sobaski, Margaret (Adolph) Denn, Sr. Florence M. Judge, Charlotte C. (Joseph) Meier, and Patricia (Edward) Schmitz; brothers, Owen, John F. “Jack” and Kenneth “Buck” Judge. Maxine is survived by her children, Marvin J. (Wendy) Raway, Kevin J. (Patty) Raway, Kenneth C. (Linde) Raway, Mary Patrice Raway, Mark E. (Sabrina) Raway, and Terrence J. (昀ancée, Tania Proksch) Raway; grandchildren, Dawn M. (Douglas) Heagren, Ann M. (Jeffrey) Dohmen, Kenneth V. (Emily Marie) Raway, Christopher L. Raway, Blake E. Raway, Maximillian L. Raway, Brandon B.(DeAnna) Carlson, and Alexander L. Raway; great grandchildren, Lauren M. Dohmen, Ella M. Dohmen, Katherine C. Heagren, Oliver T.W. Heagren, Patrick K. Raway, Elin M. Raway, Jackson L. Raway, Joseph K. Raway, Zoey K. Carlson, Nolan Carlson, and Arabella A. Carlson; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Dave Hennen of昀ciating. Interment followed at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1011 a.m. Tuesday morning at church. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, Hastings, MN.
