Norma Jean Swanson, 72, of Hastings went home to be with her Savior on Aug. 27, 2022.
She was born Dec. 19, 1949 in Hastings, Minnesota to William and Florence (Hicks) Rischette and graduated in 1968 from Hastings High School. On June 17, 1972 Norma Jean married Gary Swanson.
Norma worked at Smead Manufacturing for 30+ years. As a single mother, she also drove school bus, worked for Nancy’s Cafe and babysat early mornings for many years. Norma worked hard to truly give her family what they needed.
She planted and tended beautiful 昀ower gardens and knew every kind of 昀ower. Norma loved playing Bingo, painting, listening to music and creating crafts. She also cared for and gave shelter to many cats and animals in her life. Her faith in Jesus was very strong and her sense of humor and feisty personality will be greatly missed by many.
Norma Jean is survived by her sons, Jon (Rochelle) Swanson and Joel (Tracy) Swanson; grandson, Owen Swanson and siblings, Kent Rischette and Lance Rischette, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Gail (Jim) Coss and Mike Rischette.
A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings with a visitation from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery.
